 MRO Services
Compliance Network of New England (CNNE) offers the MRO services for clinical interpretation of results by a licensed M.D. who is also educated about drugs of abuse. The MRO services can be added to any of the programs offered by CNNE. You can have MRO reviews conducted on only positive results or all of your results whether positive or negative.
The MRO Services provide you:
     Clinical interpretation of results
In-depth knowledge of substances of abuse and how the body deals with them
Monitoring and review of test reports with efficient management of the complex procedures required in the case of positive results
Automated receipt, processing, assessment, storage and transmission of data
Timely interpretation of test results and integration of medical history
The MRO’s Four Main Functions:
Receive lab reports from the laboratory (as governed by regulations.)
Review lab reports for integrity, authenticity, false negatives, and false positives.
Interpret lab results, including verification of lab positives.
Report lab reports to employers (as defined by rules and regulations.)
The MRO,
the single most important function in the drug management process, communicates with and integrates all the other components. Your choice of MRO will determine the success of your program.
 Medical Review Officer
The Medical Review Officer (MRO) helps protect both the rights of the employee being tested and the employer requiring the testing.

 How MRO Works
Our MRO will contact the donor to discuss pertinent information regarding his/ her drug test result in order to rule out a possible positive which may have been caused by a prescription medication. Once the MRO can confirm that a legitimate prescription is held by the donor a result can be overturned and reported by the MRO to CNNE and then the employer. If no evidence is presented to the MRO to prove the result may have been caused by another substance other than an illegal drug the MRO will deem and report the result as a positive. MRO offers a 72 hours window for the donor to respond with evidence before he/she reports the result as is.
Though all federal testing requires medical review officer interpretation, non-regulated testing allows the employer to decide whether or not to attach this service to their drug-testing program. It is important to remember that, without this service, employers may face some liability when determining the legitimacy of a positive laboratory result.
